156--S- Salah/Prayer meaning word by word.



1).

Niyyah:
Inni wajjahtu wajhiya lillathi
I have turned my full attention towards Him,

 fataras -samawati wal ardha
Who has created the heavens and the earth,

 hanifaw
being ever inclined (towards Him),


 wama ana minal mushrikin
and I am not among those who associate partners with Allah



2).
Subhanaka allah-humma wa bihamdika
O Allah, how perfect You are and praise be to You

 wa tabarakasmuka
Blessed is Your name

 wa ta'ala jadduka
and exalted is Your majesty


 wala ilaha ghairuka.
There is no god but You.

3).

Ta'awwudh
A'uthu billahi.
 I seek shelter in Allah

minash-shaitanir-rajim
 from the rejected Satan

Bismillahir
In the name of Allah,

 Rahmanir Rahim.
the Gracious, the Merciful


Al hamdu lillahi Rabbil 'alamin.
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.




Ar-rahmanir-Ra him.
The Gracious, the Merciful



Maliki yaumiddin.

Master of the Day of Judgment



 Iyyaka na 'budu wa iyyaka nasta 'in.
Thee alone we worship, and to Thee alone we turn for help.



 Ihdinas-sirat al-mustaqim.
Guide us in the right path


 Siratallathina an 'amta 'alai-him,

The path of those upon whom you favoured




 ghairil maghdubi 'alaihim

and who did not deserve thy anger


 wa ladhdh alleen.

or went astray.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful




Qul hu wallahu ahad.

Say, He is Allah, the One.


Allahus-Samad.

Allah, the Independent and Besought by all.




Lam yalid, walam yulad.

He begets not, nor is He begotten.



 Walam yakulla hu kufuwan 'ahad.
And there is none like unto Him

Allah is the Greatest.

Subhana Rabbiyal 'Azhim.

Glory to my Lord, the Most Great.










7).

Sami 'allahu liman hamidah

Allah listens to him who praises Him.


8).


Rabbana walakal hamd,
Our Lord, all praise is due to You


 hamdan kathiran

praise which is abundant,

 Tayyiban mubarakan fih.

 excellent and blessed.


9).


Allaahu   Akbar

Allah is the Greatest.


10).

Subhana Rabbiyal 'a'la.

Glory to my Lord, the Most High.



11).

Allahummaghfir
O Allah, forgive me,

 li warhamni
and have mercy on me,  

wahdini
and guide me,


wajburni
and grant me security,


 wa 'afini
and make good my shortcomings,


 warzuqni
and provide for me


warfa 'ni.

 and raise me up.




12).


Allaahu   Akbar

Allah is the Greatest.




14).

Subhana Rabbiyal 'a'la.

Glory to my Lord, the Most High.



15).

Attahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayibat.

All verbal and physical acts of worship and financial sacrifices are due to Allah.




 Assalamu 'alaika ayyuhan- Nabbiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Peace be upon thee, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings;



Assalamu 'alaina wa 'ala ibadillahis- salihin.

and peace be on us and on all righteous servants of Allah




 Ash-hadu alla ilaha illallahu

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah



 wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluh.

and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.


16).

Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammad
Bless, O Allah, Muhammad and the people of Muhammad,

kama sallaita 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala ali Ibrahim
as Thou didst bless Abraham and the people of Abraham

 innaka Hamidum-Majid.
Thou art indeed the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.



17).
Allahuma barik 'ala Muhammad
O Allah, blessed Muhammad

 wa 'ala ali Muhammad
and the followers of Muhammad

 kama barakta 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala ali lbrahima
as Thou has blessed  ibraham and his followers.

 innaka Hamidum-Majid.
Thou are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

18).

Allahum-ma inni zhalamtu,

O Allah I have been unjust to myself.

nafsi zhulman kathiran wa la yaghfiruTh-dhunuba illa anta,
and no one grants pardon for sins except You;



faghfir lee maghfiratan
 therefore, forgive me with Your forgiveness


min 'indika wa arhamni
and have mercy on me

 innaka antal Ghafoorur Raheem.
Surely You are the Forgiver, the Merciful.


19).
Rabbij 'alni muqimas-Salati wamin Thur-riyyati.
My Lord, make me observe Prayer and my children, too.

 Rabbana wa taqabbal du 'a.
 Our Lord, bestow thy Grace  on me and accept my Prayer.

 Rabbanaghfir li waliwalidayya wal lil-mu'minina yauma yaqumul hisab.
Our Lord grant me forgiveness and to my parents and to the believers on the Day of the Reckoning.


20).

Rabbana atina fiddunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati
 Our Lord, bestow on us good in this world and good in the Hereafter,

 hasanatan waqina athabannar. 
 and shield us from the torment of the Fire.

Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oothu bika min 'athaabil-qabri, wa 'a'oothu bika min fitnatil-maseehid-dajjaali, wa 'a'oothu bika min fitnatil-mahyaa walmamaati. Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oothu bika minal-ma'thami walmaghrami.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sin and from debt.


21).

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.
peace and the mercy of Allah be on you




22).
“Allahumma inna nasta'inuka
O’ Allah! We implore You for help

wa nastaghfiruka,
and beg forgiveness of You

 wa nu'minu bika,
and believe in You

 wa natawwakkalu alayika,
and rely on You

 wa nusni alayikal khaira,
 and praise You

 wa nashkuruka
and we are thankful to You

 wa la nakforuka
and are not ungrateful to You

wa nakhla'u wa natruku manyafjoruk.
and we alienate and forsake those who disobey You

 Allahumma iyyaka na'budu
O’ Allah! You alone do we worship

 wa laka nusalli
 and for You do we pray

 wa nasjudu
and prostrate

 wa ilayika nasa wa nahfidu,
and we betake to please You

 wa narju Rahmataka
and present ourselves for the service in Your cause

 wa nakhsha 'adhzabaka;
and we hope for Your mercy and fear Your chastisement

 inna adhabaka bi al-kuffari mulhiq
Undoubtedly, Your torment is going to overtake infidels

23).

“Allaahumma ihdini feeman hadayta
O Allaah, guide me among those whom You have guided,

 wa ‘aafini feeman ‘aafayta
pardon me among those whom You have pardoned,

wa tawallani feeman tawallayta
turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship,

 wa baarik li feema a’tayta,
and bless me in what You have bestowed,

 wa qini sharra ma qadayta ,
 and save me from the evil of what You have decreed.

fa innaka taqdi wa la yuqda ‘alayk,
 For verily You decree and none can influence You;

 wa innahu laa yadhillu man waalayta
and he is not humiliated whom You have befriended,

wa laa ya’izzu man ‘aadayta,
nor is he honoured who is Your enemy.


 tabaarakta Rabbana wa ta’aalayta
Blessed are You, O Lord, and Exalted. There is no place of safety from You

Allaahumma 'Antas-Salaamu wa minkas-salaamu,
   O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace .

tabaarakta yaa Thal-Jalaali wal-'Ikraam. 
 Blessed are You , O Owner of majesty and honor.

26).

"Allahumma a'inni ala dhikrika,
O Allah, help me remember You,

 wa shukrika,
to be grateful to You,

 wa husni 'ibadatika
and to worship You in an excellent manner

27).

Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone,

 lahul-mulku,
He has no partner,

wa lahul-hamdu
His is the dominion

 wa Huwa 'alaa kulli
and His is the praise

shay 'in Qadeer.
 and He is Able to do all things

 Laa hawla wa laa quwwata 'illaa billaahi,
 There is no power and no might except by Allah .

laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu,
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah,

wa laa na'budu 'illaa 'iyyaahu,
and we do not worship any other besides Him .

 lahun-ni'matu
His is grace ,

 wa lahul-fadhlu
and His is bounty

 wa lahuth-thanaa'ul-hasanu,
and to Him belongs the most excellent praise.


 laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah .

mukhliseena lahud-deena
(We are) sincere in making our religious devotion to Him

 wa law karihal-kaafiroon.
 even though the disbelievers may dislike it.

28).
Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone,

 lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu
He has no partner, His is the dominion

 wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in Qadeer,
and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things.

Allaahumma laa maard'a limaa 'a'tayta,
O Allah, there is none who can withhold what You give,

 wa laa mu'tiya limaa mana'ta,
and none may give what You have withheld;

 wa laa yanfa'u thal-jaddi minkal-jadd.
and the might of the mighty person cannot benefit him against You.

29).

Laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner.

 lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu
 His is the dominion and His is the praise .

 yuhyee wa yumeetu
He brings life and He causes death ,

 wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in Qadeer.
and He is Able to do all things.
(Recite ten times in Arabic after the Maghrib and Fajr prayers.)

30).
Allaahumma 'innee 'as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an,
O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit ,

 wa rizqan tayyiban,
a good provision ,

 wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
and deeds that will be accepted.
(Recite in Arabic after the Fajr prayer.)
31).
Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem.
With the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Qul Huwallaahu 'Ahad.
Say: He is Allah (the) One.

 Allaahus-Samad.
The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need,

 Lam yalid wa lam yoolad.
He begets not nor was He begotten,

 Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan 'ahad.
 and there is none equal to Him.

32).
Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem.
With the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Qul 'a'oothu birabbil-falaq.
 Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of the daybreak,

Min sharri maa khalaq.
 from the evil of what He has created,

 Wa min sharri ghaasiqin 'ithaa waqab.
and from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness,

 Wa min sharrin-naffaathaati fil-'uqad.
and from the evil of those who practice witchcraft when they blow in the knots,

 Wa min sharri haasidin 'ithaa hasad.
and from the evil of the envier when he envies.

33).

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem .
With the Name of Allah , the Most Gracious , the Most Merciful.
 Qul 'a'oothu birabbin-naas .
Say: I seek refuge with (Allah) the Lord of mankind,

 Malikin-naas .
the King of mankind ,

 'Ilaahin-naas .
the God of mankind ,

 Min sharril-waswaasil-khannaas.
from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws,

 Allathee yuwaswisu fee sudoorin-naas.
who whispers in the breasts of mankind,

 Minal-jinnati wannaas.
of jinns and men.1

(These Surahs should be recited in Arabic after each prayer. After the Maghrib and Fajr prayers they should be recited three times each.) 2

34).
Allaahu laa 'ilaaha 'illaa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoom,
Allah! There is none worthy of worship but He,the Ever Living,

 laa ta'khuthuhu sinatun wa laa nawm,
the One Who sustains and protects all that exists.

 lahu maa fis-samaawaati wa maafil-'ardh,
Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him

 man thal-lathee yashfa'u 'indahu 'illaa bi'ithnih,
 To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.

 ya'lamu maa bayna 'aydeehim wa maa khalfahum,
Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission?

 wa laa yuheetoona bishay'im-min
He knows what happens to them in this world,

 'ilmihi 'illaa bimaa shaa'a,
 and what will happen to them in the Hereafter.

 wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samaawaati wal'ardh,
And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills.

wa laa ya'ooduhu hifdhuhumaa,
His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth,

wa Huwal-'Aliyyul- 'Adheem.
 and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
(Recite in Arabic after each prayer.)

35).
 Subhan Allah
Glory be to God

 Al-Hamdu Lillah
Praise be to God

 Allahu Akbar
God is most great
